Saturday's Excerpt – Partners: Blinded By The Trees

The couple stopped. "What?" the man asked in a surly voice turning in Johanna's direction. He was unshaven and his eyes were bloodshot. His companion clinging tightly to his side looked timidly at them. She was mousy looking, thin and probably not much past her teens.

"We're looking for someone who lives on this street and we were wondering if you could give us directions."

"Who?" the man asked in an unfriendly tone of voice.

Johanna kept her foot near the gas pedal as she chatted. "We want to pay our condolences to Brenda and Clyde Burrows."

The timid woman who'd been silently observing them finally spoke. "They're probably down at Micki's Tavern. That's where they usually are."

"But their son—"

"It don't matter," the man broke in. "They didn't give a damn about that kid." He leaned in the window. Johanna could smell the stale whiskey on his breath. She recoiled. "I hope they're not close friends of yours or you'll be insulted by what I'm going to say. This neighborhood was bad enough before that trash moved in here." He scratched his stubbly chin. "They live in the apartment across from ours. The beatings that kid took would make your skin crawl."

"Did you ever call the sheriff or police?" Frankie asked.

The man threw his head back and laughed revealing two missing bottom teeth. "Now that's a good one."

"Well, thank you for your help. We'll check the bar," Johanna said.

The man shrugged as he took the woman's arm and resumed walking.

Saturday's Excerpt – Partners: The Other Woman

Frankie's shoulders slumped. Why wasn't Johanna demanding that Gretchen leave? A cold clamminess overtook her. "Johanna, I'd like to talk to you in private, please," Frankie said in a low voice. She tightly clasped her trembling hands.

Johanna hesitated. "In a minute, Frankie." She kept her eyes glued on Gretchen. "I'm waiting, Gretchen."

"Now!" Frankie demanded not caring how she looked to Gracelyn and Gretchen. She couldn't take any more of this humiliation. She quickly exited the room avoiding eye contact with Gretchen and Gracelyn, but felt their eyes boring into her back as she stiffly walked through the door toward her bedroom. Johanna had let Gretchen and her mother make a fool out of her and it left her hurt, confused, and so very afraid. Frankie choked back a sob that had bubbled up in her throat.

Frankie heard Johanna's quick footsteps following her to their bedroom. Once inside, Frankie whirled on her. "Is this the woman who caused you to leave California? Is Gretchen your ex-lover?" Her body shook convulsively. "Dammit, Johanna, answer me."

Johanna lowered her eyes. "Yes, but please let me explain."

Frankie hurried to the closet and pulled out a suitcase. "Don't bother. I get the picture. At least it explains your mother's odd behavior."

Frankie parked the car as far as she could off the shoulder of the road obscuring it from view by overgrown brush. She turned off the engine. "Now we wait."

Johanna patted Frankie's knee. "Let's make ourselves comfortable. This could be a long night." She settled back in her seat.

"I'm glad we got out of the office at a decent hour so you were able to cook that fantastic dinner. I love when you cook."

Frankie grabbed her hand, giving it a squeeze. "Don't forget it's your turn to cook tomorrow night. I'm thinking I may be in the mood for something hot and spicy, like Mexican."

"Then afterwards maybe we'll get a chance to go for that moonlight swim we've been aiming for all summer, before the nice weather disappears." She sighed deeply. "In a couple of weeks it's going to be too chilly to swim at night."

Frankie ran her tongue seductively over her lips. "I can't wait to see your naked body shimmering in the moonlight. Remember last summer, making love in the pool and on the deck?"

"Stop or we're going to end up in the backseat," Johanna warned.

"And that's a bad thing?" She cocked an eye.

Saturday's Excerpt – Heart's Desire

Vanessa took her time making her way to the bed where Emma's outstretched arms welcomed her. Emma's firm perky breasts peeked out from the top of the blanket. Vanessa licked her lips in anticipation of the luscious naked body that awaited her. Her eyes focused on Emma's large hardened nipples. She wondered if they were hard because of the slight chill in the room or because of sexual arousal. Maybe a little of both, but she intended to find out right now.

As Emma wrapped her arms around Vanessa's neck, Vanessa caught her bottom lip between her teeth and then gave her a long lingering kiss before stretching out next to her. She loved Emma's freshness, the way she stood up for her beliefs, her unwavering courage to go after what she wanted, her confidence with her sexuality, but mostly the chemistry between them. That was what had attracted her to Emma from the very beginning. Just looking at her from across a room instantly made Vanessa yearn for her. Their differences made their bond stronger.

Saturday's Excerpt – Breaking Free

Before Katelyn could respond, he turned to Izzy. "We haven't seen her this happy in a long time. It doesn't matter how you two met…I'm just thrilled that you've come into her life and put that beautiful smile back on her face. And I want to be the first to thank you. It's not hard to see how much you two mean to each other. You couldn't ask for a better family to be a part of either, Izzy."

The rest of Katelyn's family enthusiastically voiced their approval and held up their glasses in a toast as they smiled at Izzy and Katelyn. Izzy felt Katelyn stiffen. She turned and glanced at Katelyn. Her face had drained of all color and an expression of shock was etched on her beautiful face. Suddenly it dawned on Izzy what they were referring to.

Saturday's Excerpt – Behind Closed Doors

Kera was fatigued, but found after climbing into bed that she couldn't fall asleep. She cocked an ear as a soft sigh escaped from Summer. The scent of Summer lingered in the room. It was a fresh and very feminine scent, which mingled with the light fragrance of her perfume. It brought up a far too long suppressed feeling inside of Kera. Summer was an attractive woman and it had been a long time since Kera had been totally alone with the same sex, not to mention, far too long since she'd been intimate. Her mind drifted to the romantic nights Steffi and she used to share and the passion they'd felt when their love was unleashed. Her lips trembled. She'd never have that again. Steffi was gone.

Saturday's Excerpt – The Prize

Starlyn sat down, keeping her gaze focused on Micki, which in turn made Micki's usual cool demeanor seem like she was a bumbling idiot. Micki set the salads and bread on the table and poured two more glasses of wine. She smiled at Micki as she daintily brought her fork to her lips.

Micki stared down at her own plate and tried to avoid those hauntingly beautiful eyes. She felt something brush against her leg and almost dropped her fork. Starlyn had removed one of her heels and her stocking clad foot had brushed against Micki's leg.

"I'm sorry," Starlyn said.

"That's okay," Micki quietly answered, wondering if it really was an accident. The heat from Starlyn's foot lingered long after she removed it.

"You didn't. It feels good to talk to someone who understands, but I'm the one who should apologize." She gave Alex's hands a squeeze, but didn't let go. "I'm not very good company."

"You have nothing to apologize for. And yes, I know what it feels like to be lonely." Alex didn't realize that her thumb was slowly caressing the top of Molly's hand. She looked into Molly's lonely eyes and, before she could stop herself, leaned over and softly kissed her lips.

Saturday's Excerpt – Sweet Surrender

"For the last time, I don’t care," she said, exasperated. "Class is going to start." She saw Jordan reenter the room. "Let’s get into position. Remember we’re breaking into groups of three tonight so I will be working with you two." The truth was that she did care. To try to stop Jordan Hunter from invading her thoughts, she’d kept herself so busy all week that she literally fell into bed each night exhausted. She knew eventually she’d have to get Jordan Hunter into bed to get it out of her system. That was the only way she could exorcise her from her thoughts. But the problem was if Jordan was involved with someone Sawyer would never come between them. She’d just have to play it by ear. If Jordan made a direct pass, she’d take her up on it. After their one night of raw uninhibited sex was over, she could move on and put this ridiculousness behind her. The worst-case scenario was that Jordan would want more than a one-night stand. Commitment was not in Sawyer’s vocabulary.

Saturday's Excerpt – Katra

Katra wasn’t interested in the surprise. She wanted her question answered, but before she could say another word, the screen was filled with the image of Lily slowly unbuttoning her blouse. Katra swallowed hard. The unanswered question could wait for now. Her eyes stayed glued to the screen. She’d had phone sex before, but never on a video chat. This was new and could prove to be very interesting. Her eyes stayed focused on Lily’s fingers as they sensuously undid the buttons on her silky blouse. Katra suddenly realized that the shadows had faded from Lily’s chest, but were still hiding her face. Her pulse quickened.

Lily took her time removing the blouse, enticing Katra. When Lily finally slid it over her firm shoulders, her perky medium sized breasts filled the screen. "Do you like these?" she asked seductively as she slowly massaged them.

Katra licked her lips. "Yes," she whispered hoarsely, overcome with desire as she watched Lily’s large nipples harden. Katra longed to be touching them, bringing them into her mouth. Her throat dried out as she continued to watch. She grew wet and a slow burn forced her to shift her position in her chair. She swallowed hard again as her heart pounded against her chest.

"Would you like to touch them, Katra?" Lily asked in a voice that the app made sound slightly throaty and desirable.

Sweat formed on Katra’s brow. "Yes," she said hoarsely. "Tell me who you are. I don’t want to wait."

"Soon... very soon. I’ll have more for you tomorrow night. I’ll be here at nine."

Before Katra could respond, Lily was gone.

Saturday's Excerpt – Partners: Deception

Johanna swallowed hard. "I swear, if it wasn't broad daylight I'd whip everything off my desk and take you right now."

Frankie cocked an eye. "Now who's insatiable?"

Johanna laughed softly. "Okay. We're even." The phone buzzed and Johanna picked it up. "Hi, Trey. Calm down and tell me what's wrong."

Frankie immediately leaned forward and looked at Johanna. Trey Daniels was one of their closest friends. They'd met him after they'd quit the Philadelphia police force and
moved to Charlestown where they purchased twenty acres, built their dream home, rented an office in a strip mall sandwiched between a coffee shop and hair salon and hung
out their sign: Obrien and Barker Private Investigators.

"Does Will know?" Johanna asked.

Frankie's curiosity was piqued. She wished Johanna had put the phone on speaker. She couldn't read much in Johanna's expression and hoped there wasn't a problem between
Trey and Will. Will Benjamin was not only Trey's life partner, but business partner as well. Trey owned a landscaping business, over the years had expanded it, and now
had added an entire crew to run most of it while he got his new construction business off the ground.

"Okay. We'll see what we can find out. I'll talk to you later, Trey. No, don't worry. We won't let Will know." She hung up the phone.

"I hope it's not trouble in paradise," Frankie said.

"No. It's nothing like that. Trey wants us to do a thorough background check on an old friend of Will's."

Saturday's Excerpt – Partners: Winds Of Fire

She crossed to the window and peered out into the peaceful and serene darkness. She didn't take anything for granted anymore. How quickly everything could change from one second to the next. She'd almost lost Johanna at the hands of that monster Carson Fellows. Johanna's life had almost been snuffed out that night and there was nothing Frankie could have done to protect her. She'd never forget the overwhelming helplessness she'd felt. She tried to erase the disturbing images of Johanna in the clutches of that monster from her mind. She was fine during the day, but as soon as darkness fell the memories flooded back, almost consuming her.

Frankie felt no closure even with Fellows' death. It was as though he was still reaching out from the grave waiting for the perfect time to strike again. It unsettled her. She couldn't share her feelings with anyone—especially not Johanna. She hoped the backyard renovation would not only chase away Johanna's lingering demons, but her own as well.

Saturday's Excerpt – Partners: Beyond The Shadows

"The name does sound vaguely familiar, but I don't remember him." She tensed. "Why would I? I was just a little kid when he went to prison." Her eyes narrowed as she looked again at George. "What's going on? Level with me, George, what are you not telling me? If I'm somehow connected to this piece of garbage, I have a right to know." She thought her chest would explode as the adrenalin gushed through her body making her movements jerky. She hoped to God she wasn't related to this monster. Could he be some relative her parents had disowned and never wanted her to know about? From what she read in his record she certainly wouldn't have blamed them if that was what had happened.

The sheriff shifted his heavy body and then rubbed his stubbly jaw thoughtfully before exhaling loudly. He kept his eyes level with hers. "Frankie, the reason I called you two in is because Carson Fellows was released from prison six months ago." His jaw tightened. "He's recently threatened to take care of those who put him in prison and now he's disappeared. His parole officer hasn't heard from him in weeks and he's left no paper trail."

Her eyes widened. The way George was looking at her, with so much sympathy in his eyes, caused her throat to constrict and her blood to run cold. What was he holding back? Why didn't he just come right out and tell her what the hell was going on? If she could manage to keep her own emotions in check, he'd tell her. He was gauging her reaction and preparing her for bad news. The more she looked into his eyes she finally saw something else there, too. Something he was trying hard to hide, but failing miserably at. Fear mixed with a good dose of sympathy. She'd never seen Sheriff George Ryker emit an emotion of fear before this moment. It made her uncomfortable. Why would George be afraid of an ex-con on the run? And what did that monster have to do with her?

"You can speak freely in front of Mom, George. After what's she's witnessed tonight I don't think anything will shock her now."

George rubbed his tired eyes. "I ran a quick background check, but nothing turned up to verify anything the parents said about their son. I'm going to run a more in-depth check as soon as I get back to the office."

"What about the parents…anything on them?" Frankie asked.

"The Burrows' moved here about two months ago from Alabama. They've lived in four different states in the past five years."

Johanna frowned. "That's quite a lot of moving around the country. Is Burrows in the military?"

He shook his head as he picked his coffee cup back up. "No. I have a gut feeling about him. Something doesn't smell right."

"Where does he work?" Johanna asked as she sipped at her coffee.

"Clyde Burrows picks up odd jobs wherever he can find them. Now his background check brought up many arrests…mostly for shoplifting, theft and petty crimes, but he did serve time for a home invasion a few years ago in Arkansas. He claimed he didn't know the family was home, panicked, and pulled a gun on them. Through some legal loophole he was released early and moved his family to Alabama."

Saturday's Excerpt – 2 In 1: Partners

"I take it you don't like him much," Johanna said.

Mayna lowered her eyes and looked at the pen in her hand, then quickly set the pen down. "No. I don't. He thinks women should fawn all over him the minute he enters the room. If they don't, well let's just suffice it to say that he loves a challenge. He's the master of seduction," she replied bitterly.

"How long did you date him?" Johanna asked, unexpectedly taking Mayna by surprise.

Frankie watched the color creep into Mayna's cheeks. She loved watching Johanna work. She had a knack for sizing someone up and then subtly asking an unanticipated question and gauging the immediate reaction of her unsuspecting interviewee.

Mayna's fingers became restless again and instead of picking the pen back up, she nervously fingered a pile of brochures stacked on the counter. A long tapered red fingernail looked like it would be pulled off if it got snagged in the pamphlets. "I got him the job here. What a mistake that turned out to be. We were together for almost two years and he led me to believe we were heading to something permanent." She raised her eyes slowly.

Frankie noticed the tears peeking out behind Mayna's eyelids. "It's none of our business about the details of your relationship with Bunson. We're here to talk about Cassandra McHenry."

Mayna cleared her throat. "She's the reason we broke up."

Saturday's Excerpt – Partners: The Other Woman

Johanna's complexion paled when she saw the woman. She looked anxiously at her mother.

Gracelyn sat stony faced as she met Johanna's eyes. "Johanna, I'm sure you two have a lot to talk about."

"You two know each other?" Frankie's eyes clouded as she wondered what the connection was between Johanna and the blonde. Johanna looked deeply distressed and her eyes flashed angrily as she made her way over to where Frankie still stood in the doorway. She slipped her arm through Frankie's.

Johanna cleared her throat. "Frankie, this is Gretchen Wyler. We knew each other years ago in California."

"Now, Jo, we were much more than just friends," Gretchen cooed as her eyes swept appreciatively over Johanna then settled on Frankie. "We've already met. I thought you were Jo's secretary," she said, annoyed. "You didn't tell me differently."

"I had no reason to," Frankie replied smugly. "Now what are you doing at my home this time of night?"

Saturday's Excerpt – Partners: The Wrong Corpse

Johanna opened her eyes slowly. She flashed Frankie a smile. "Is it Saturday yet?"

Frankie laughed. "No, but why should that matter? The last two cases we were on the clock seven days a week."

She made a face. "Don't remind me."

Frankie ran her fingers through Johanna's long auburn hair. "I missed you so much," she whispered.

"These past two days with you have been heaven." She planted a quick kiss on Frankie's cheek before sliding off of the bed. "I love lying in bed all day with you, but we've got to pay the bills. I'm going to grab a shower."

Frankie waited until she heard the water come on in the shower, then got out of bed and hurried to the bathroom. She pulled back the end of the shower curtain, stepped inside, put her arms around Johanna, and kissed the back of her neck. "I'll wash your back," she murmured.

Frankie lathered some soap in her hands and slowly massaged it across Johanna's slender, but firm shoulders, then down her strong back. When she reached Johanna's ass, she took her time running her hands over the perfectly rounded cheeks and then ran a fingertip in the crack. Johanna's sharp intake of breath aroused her.

"Don't start something you don't intend to finish," she warned in a throaty voice.

"Oh, I intend to finish what I hope I'm starting," she said softly as she removed her fingertip and brought her arms around Johanna as her hands cupped Johanna's large breasts. "Ah, your nipples are already hard."

Saturday's Excerpt – The Three Of Us

Lily's eyes widened. "I wish I could have met her on one of her visits. She must think it odd that we're getting married and she hasn't even met me."

Caroline peered at her. "It's not your fault you were away on business when she visited. I haven't even had a chance to go back home for a visit since you and I met. I've only seen my mother twice since we started dating. She's as busy with her career as you and I are with ours, so she certainly understands." She brought Lily's face closer to her own. "Quit worrying. She's thrilled for us and excited to meet you."

Lily kissed her softly, but pulled back when Caroline tried to deepen the kiss.
"What's wrong, Lily?"

"You talk to her on the phone at least a couple of times a week." Lily shook her head. "We've been together for quite a while. I get the impression that you rarely, if ever, spoke of me." She bit her bottom lip. "When you talked to her earlier today did you at least mention our age difference so she won't be shocked?"

Saturday's Excerpt – Heart's Desire

"I'm sorry. I just—"

"Want everything to be perfect for me because that's what you think I expect," Vanessa finished for her. "Well, it's not. I've never been able just to let go and not be under a microscope. This is the first time in my life no one is around to judge me. Please, let me enjoy this, honey." Her eyes softened. "Now, let's get the car unloaded." She tilted her head in the direction of the large bed. "Then I know how I'd like to begin our weekend," she added with a wicked grin.

Saturday's Excerpt – Breaking Free

No, she couldn't let her mind drift and inadvertently let her feelings toward Katelyn be known. Beacher was a small town and even though Katelyn was friendly to her now, would she change her attitude if she found out that Izzy had ended her marriage five years ago to succumb to her hidden desires to be with a woman? How did she know how Katelyn felt about anything?

They'd had a short friendly conversation, but that was all it was. She had to keep her guard up. It would be easy if Katelyn weren't so damned attractive with a voice that felt like soft fingertips roaming over her needy flesh every time she spoke.

Saturday's Excerpt – Behind Closed Doors

Impulsively, Summer reached out and patted Kera's hand. "You're right. We don't know what this has been like for you. But we want to make it easier."

Kera tingled at the touch. But just as quickly as the soft warm hand had been on hers, it was gone. But the touch lingered. "But you can't give me back the last two years of my life." She blinked rapidly as she looked into Summer's soft eyes.

Summer's face softened. "No, we can't Kera. But hopefully I can ease some of this loneliness for you." She patted Kera's hand again.

Suddenly Kera felt safe. It was hard to explain how such a simple gesture could make her feel protected, but it did. And a part of her was happy that Summer would be taking Karl's place. As much as she'd miss the sporadic rapport Karl and she had managed to build over the last two years, it would be nice to have a woman to talk to. But she could never tell Summer that she'd confided to Annette about her true identity. Just as she'd never told Karl. And she could never tell either of them that Annette was holding that information against her. Thinking about Annette left a bad taste in her mouth.

Saturday's Excerpt – The Prize

"Okay, ladies, the first one pinned and it's all over." She motioned to a big boned woman Micki didn't recognize. "We've been fortunate that Ally McGuire, manager for LMW Promotions, out of California has agreed to act as referee."

Ally carefully eyed both women, then gave the signal for them to begin.

Jane advanced toward her, grabbing her shoulder, but before Micki could get her bearings, she found herself slipping and falling face down in the mud. She rolled and slipped out of Jane's grasp and got to her knees. She swiped the mud from her mouth as Jane advanced like a wild bull bringing her down again. The audience went wild
as the women rolled in the mud. Micki took the opportunity when Jane briefly paused to wipe mud from her eyes to scramble to her feet. As Jane jumped up and ambled toward her, Micki managed to stay on her feet and reach out for Jane's wiry body. Jane's too skinny body easily glided away, but her bikini top caught on Micki's thumb and, as Jane scampered away, her top was left dangling on Micki's thumb.

Saturday's Excerpt – Out Of Control

She noticed the small tattoo of an angel on Molly's bare shoulder and pointed to it. "I like that."

Molly laughed, tilting her head. "Thanks. I had that done when I was eighteen during my
rebellious years. I thought about having it removed, but never got around to it."

"I wouldn't…it's nice."

"Maybe I'll keep it then." She grinned. "I suppose we should get back to the others."

Alex would have preferred continuing to talk to her alone, but reluctantly followed noticing what a nice ass she had. With every curve in the right place, she was clad in a pair of tight-fitting jeans and a low-scooped blouse. Her body was slim, but her  arms and legs were muscular and Alex attributed that to carrying the heavy mailbags while walking her route. Her femininity couldn't be denied though. The perfume she wore was light and pleasantly filled Alex's nostrils.

Saturday's Excerpt – The Interview

Three hours later Joe packed up his gear assuring Rae that he would meet her back here at five forty-five a.m. to get some shots of Shayla jogging at her customary time of six am sharp every weekday morning. After he left, Shayla took Rae's hand and led her to the sofa. The heat from her small hand made Rae's legs wobbly and she quickly seated herself. Shayla sat next to her. Rae was very aware of her intense eyes watching her every move. The light scent of her expensive perfume lingered in Rae's nostrils almost intoxicating her.

Saturday's Excerpt – Best Friends

"How does that feel?" Katie quietly asked.

Callie felt Katie's warm breath close to her ear. "Great," she murmured. "I never had a massage before. Guess I'll have to keep you around."

"I don't mind. Just call me whenever you need one."

Callie closed her eyes as Katie's hands moved over her entire back. She sucked in her breath as those intense hands continued touching her throbbing body longing to turn over and pull Katie down on top of her but knew she couldn't do that. When Katie was finished, Callie could still feel the sensation from her touch, and couldn't recall ever feeling so relaxed and peaceful.

Saturday's Excerpt – The Other Side

"Your affairs tortured me, Michael," she continued. "I felt so violated."

"What about yours and Clare's?" he countered. "How can you twist things to make me out to be the villain in this marriage?"

"I wasn't screwing my staff!"

"You might as well have been."

"Then why didn't you leave, Michael?" She looked pointedly at him. "Why?"

He kept quiet.

"You didn't leave because the benefits were too good. You got to play the part of the doting husband and father, but most importantly you enjoyed all the prestige that went along with it, not to mention the money and other luxuries."

He let his breath out slowly. "What kind of woman would marry a man knowing that she only enjoyed being with women?"

Saturday's Excerpt – The Silent Cry

J.C. looked up hoping to conceal the pain Samantha's words caused. "We used to be so close, Sam. It seems like it was years ago now." She swallowed hard. "I love you. That has never stopped for me. I don't know why you ended our relationship. I was so hurt when you never visited me in jail. I thought you didn't care. I couldn't take it when you said you didn't want to see me anymore. I don't care about anything anymore…especially now with Harry gone." A tear slid from her eye, making a slow descent down her cheek. "I don't know what happened that night; I wish to God I could remember, but I can't. When I came here that night I thought that maybe you would have missed me so much that you would want me back." She cleared her throat. "But I swear to you that I did not kill Harry. I know I was set up and I've been racking my brain trying to figure this out." She twisted her fingers through her hair. "I don't have any recollection of anything after I left here that night. At first, I thought I was losing my mind. I just wish I could remember," she sobbed.

Saturday's Excerpt – Zinna

Zinna waited for Monica to release her hand, only she didn't. She should pull her own hand free, but something inside wouldn't allow her to. She imagined it was Megan holding her hand. It felt good to be touched again, touched by her Megan, Megan who shared the same feelings she did. It'd been so long since she'd felt the flesh of Megan this close to her own. Old familiar feelings stirred inside her. Those feelings and yearnings now seeped to the edge of her consciousness, engulfing her in the mysteries which lay ahead just as they did when they were sixteen and knew they had no control over their feelings for one another. Her mind unconditionally convinced her that it was Megan holding her hand and tears rolled down her face as the song ended. The ache in her chest engulfed her.

Saturday's Excerpt – Destiny

"Jaylene's there?"

"She just got out of the shower," she explained. "I don't know what she fixed for my hangover, but I'm feeling better than I was a little while ago." She smiled at Jaylene.

"She spent the night then?" Angela's voice grew quiet.

"Yes. If it weren't for her, I don't know how I would have gotten through the night. She was a lifesaver."

"I…I'll let you get back to what you were doing. I was just worried about you. Goodbye."

"Angela, wait!"

Saturday's Excerpt – Partners: Deception

Will frowned as he set his beer down. "Dinner will be fine, Trey. Lighten up. He'll be down…here he is now," he said as he looked toward the entrance.

Kyle Martin stepped into the room dressed in kakis and a black polo shirt. His dark brown hair was on the long side and he had dark penetrating eyes. "Sorry for the delay,"
he said. "I had to take a call." He walked over to where Frankie and Johanna were sitting. "So, these are the two beautiful ladies who'll be joining us for dinner tonight? Too
bad you're a couple." He didn't wait for proper introductions, but immediately held out a hand to Johanna. "I'm Kyle Martin. And you are Johanna or Frankie?" he asked as his
eyes bore into hers.

Johanna gritted her teeth as she took the hand he offered. His tone of voice was cocky and every instinct in her body told her he was not who he pretended to be. Her assessment of him was now sealed and any thought she may have had of giving him the benefit of the doubt was now dissolved. His overall attitude revealed a man who thought
he was more than he actually was. Her growing dislike for him intensified. She met his gaze. He was extremely good looking and she supposed he used that to his advantage
whenever it benefited him, but his phony charm and looks would get him nowhere with her. "I'm Johanna and this is Frankie," she said motioning to Frankie who was seated on
the sofa next to her.

"Frankie, huh?" he remarked lifting an eyebrow as his eyes instantly moved to Frankie and swept over her. "Were your parents hoping for a son?" he asked with a slight smirk.
"Or does your name have a significance to your relationship with Johanna?"

Johanna and Trey sat stunned and Trey gripped his wine glass so tight Frankie thought it would break. Johanna seemed to wait expectantly for Frankie's response, knowing
that no input from her was necessary.

"Excuse me," Frankie answered coolly. "Are you always this rude?"
