Saturday's Excerpt – Destiny

Kerri bit her bottom lip fighting back the tears. "You’re the one who chose to leave. What do you want from me?"

"I don’t want to lose you, Ker. I want and need you in my life."

"I can’t just be your friend, Rachel. We’ve shared too much. I want all of you or nothing."

"Kerri, please listen to me for a minute. Don’t you know what you mean to me?"

A tear slipped from Kerri’s eye. "Obviously I don’t mean enough. Please have a good life, Rachel. I wish you only happiness and I hope you find what you’re looking for. There’s nothing more to say." As she removed the phone from her ear, she heard Rachel’s voice pleading with her, but she knew there was nothing more to be said. She hung up the phone. Her tortured heart couldn’t take any more battering. All emotion drained from her leaving her cold and numb as though someone had just died. There was nothing left inside, but a deep dark hole where her heart had once been.

Saturday's Excerpt – Breaking Free

Even though they’d spent only a short time together, it had been comfortable. Izzy was easy to talk to and her presence was relaxing. She seemed eager to settle into Beacher and Katelyn would help her make that transition a pleasant one if Izzy wanted her to.

Stop it! She commanded her mind as it began imagining all sorts of scenarios. She bit her bottom lip. Just because Izzy was new in town and obviously unattached gave Katelyn no reason to assume the woman was a lesbian just because Katelyn’s mind tried to will her to be so. Izzy had given her no reason to assume she was gay. She hadn’t mentioned anyone coming to Beacher with her and had seemed eager to accept Katelyn’s invitation. Of course, there could be many reasons why she’d come alone. Perhaps a companion would be joining her later.

Saturday's Excerpt – Destiny

"You can stay here with me knowing we’ll leave here in a couple of years or you can go now, but I can’t wear your ring if you get on that bus." She swiped the tears from her eyes. "I can’t make any more promises if you leave."

"This means we’re breaking up, Ker. Take back your ring. Please put it back on right now. I don’t want to break up."

"Then please get back in the car." Her eyes pleaded with Rachel. "Don’t break my heart," she whispered.

"Please understand why I’m doing this, Kerri. I do love you. We’ll be together like we planned." Rachel picked up her suitcases and walked into the bus terminal. Once inside she turned watching through the glass door as Kerri wiped the tears from her cheeks then got into her car quickly speeding away.

Saturday's Excerpt – Breaking Free

"I’m sorry," Izzy apologized. "I didn’t see you." She backed away from the booth, scanning the area for another available seat. All seats were full so she resigned herself to the fact that she’d have to come back another day. The coffee would have to wait.

The woman gently touched Izzy’s arm. "Please take the booth. You were here first." She smiled brightly.

Izzy returned the smile with one of her own. "Thank you, but I think we both got here at the same time. We could toss a coin," she teased good-naturedly. She wondered if the attractive blonde was waiting for someone.

The woman laughed softly as she looked into Izzy’s eyes. "Or we could share it if you’re not expecting anyone. I just stopped in for a quick cup of coffee."

"So did I," Izzy replied. "I’m not expecting anyone and I’d enjoy the company," she added quickly.

Saturday's Excerpt – Destiny

In bed later that night, Rachel listened to Kerri’s heavy breathing, but knew that she wasn’t asleep. She moved closer tenderly touching Kerri’s smooth cheek. "Ker?"

"Hmmm?"

"Were you sleeping?"

She slowly let her breath out. "No, just thinking."

"About what?"

Kerri shifted turning her face toward Rachel. "Us. I thought my life was finally going the way I’d always hoped and now you’re leaving me." Her voice cracked, and then broke. "I’m afraid that I’m losing you and I don’t know what to do."

Rachel ran her fingertips over Kerri’s cheek feeling the tear that trickled from her eye. "I’ll never leave you, Ker. I just need to do this. For us."

Saturday's Excerpt – Breaking Free

No, she couldn’t let her mind drift and inadvertently let her feelings toward Katelyn be known. Beacher was a small town and even though Katelyn was friendly to her now, would she change her attitude if she found out that Izzy had ended her marriage five years ago to succumb to her hidden desires to be with a woman? How did she know how Katelyn felt about anything?

They’d had a short friendly conversation, but that was all it was. She had to keep her guard up. It would be easy if Katelyn weren’t so damned attractive with a voice that felt like soft fingertips roaming over her needy flesh every time she spoke.
