Saturday's Excerpt – Breaking Free

Izzy's insides turned to jelly as she met Katelyn's penetrating gaze. She hadn't felt like this in a long time. The emotion had lain dormant deep inside, and now was suddenly being resurrected without warning. She wasn't quite sure how to handle these sudden stirrings. Were they erupting from loneliness or from a genuine attraction to this stranger? She wasn't sure and right now she didn't care. Katelyn had touched a part of her that no woman, for years, had been able to.

Saturday's Excerpt – Behind Closed Doors

How had her life become such a mess? Especially when none of it had been her fault? She was a victim of circumstances, but telling Annette about her past was her own fault. She'd been warned, but in a weak lonely moment, threw caution to the wind, hoping for compassion and friendship. She had to leave her own family with no warning or explanation. She simply vanished. However, Annette had violated her trust and now threatened to use it against her. Confessing everything to Annette had been a mistake she couldn't undo. When she wasn't working, she secluded herself in her dingy cramped basement apartment. She craved love and romance and knew that she may never experience either again in this lifetime. Her frustration grew daily. She'd never so much as even gotten a speeding ticket in her life, but she was being punished through no fault of her own. At the age of thirty-two, she was much too young to spend the rest of her life this way, but the FBI hadn't given her any choice in the matter if she wanted to stay alive.

Saturday's Excerpt – Partners: Deception

Johanna swallowed hard. "I swear, if it wasn't broad daylight I'd whip everything off my desk and take you right now."

Frankie cocked an eye. "Now who's insatiable?"

Johanna laughed softly. "Okay. We're even." The phone buzzed and Johanna picked it up. "Hi, Trey. Calm down and tell me what's wrong."

Frankie immediately leaned forward and looked at Johanna. Trey Daniels was one of their closest friends. They'd met him after they'd quit the Philadelphia police force and
moved to Charlestown where they purchased twenty acres, built their dream home, rented an office in a strip mall sandwiched between a coffee shop and hair salon and hung
out their sign: Obrien and Barker Private Investigators.

"Does Will know?" Johanna asked.

Frankie's curiosity was piqued. She wished Johanna had put the phone on speaker. She couldn't read much in Johanna's expression and hoped there wasn't a problem between
Trey and Will. Will Benjamin was not only Trey's life partner, but business partner as well. Trey owned a landscaping business, over the years had expanded it, and now
had added an entire crew to run most of it while he got his new construction business off the ground.

"Okay. We'll see what we can find out. I'll talk to you later, Trey. No, don't worry. We won't let Will know." She hung up the phone.

"I hope it's not trouble in paradise," Frankie said.

"No. It's nothing like that. Trey wants us to do a thorough background check on an old friend of Will's."

Saturday's Excerpt – Partners: The Wrong Corpse

"I wonder where she went," Johanna said. "It couldn't have been too far." She squinted as she read the sign. "These rooms in the back are equipped with kitchenettes, an extra room, and are available for long-term lease."

"Sounds almost like a small studio apartment." Frankie parked the car and turned off the ignition. "McHenry said she's typically gone for hours at a time."

"He also said besides visiting a 'friend', she tells him she's going to Riley's Gym for a workout," Johanna interjected.

Frankie lifted an eyebrow. "Well, I'll bet she's getting a workout all right." She took a pen flashlight and shined it on her notes. "We should talk to the manager of Riley's Gym to see if she does indeed go there. They'd have a record if she has a membership."

"She could just be telling McHenry that."

"Why? I mean if she wanted out of her marriage, why not get a divorce? She's rich. And face it; he's old enough to be her father. He's not very good looking either." She made a face. "Maybe she's getting a little from some hot stud to fortify herself before climbing into bed with him every night."

Johanna was thoughtful for a minute. "Could be. Maybe she doesn't want the publicity and cost of a messy divorce. So she has a fling with no strings attached."
