Saturday's Excerpt – The Other Side

Clare Christian scanned the newspaper. "Where are you, Ally?" She wondered why Ally hadn’t called her. They’d often gone for a few weeks without seeing one another, but they’d always kept in touch by phone. She debated calling Ally’s private number. What reason would she give for calling if Michael answered? If she didn’t hear from Ally soon she would make the call. She loved being Ally’s confidant as well as her lover. In the beginning, she’d wanted so much more out of their relationship and at times had even thought about ending it, but she knew deep within her heart that Ally was destined to remain a part of her life. She’d settled into her own life, living for the moments Ally could come to her and they would make passionate love and then she would tenderly hold Ally as Ally shared her fears and hopes with her. She hated releasing her back into her life with Michael Brent, but knew she had to.

Saturday's Excerpt – The Other Side

Nothing made sense. She’d always been strong and in control of her emotions, but now everything was jumbled. She worried about Christa and Michael. He was so distant with her and as her world crumbled before her, with no way of stopping it, he distanced himself even further. She brought it up to him and he denied it, but she felt it just the same. He was disgusted with her. She saw it in his eyes when he looked at her. When she was physically and emotionally stronger, she’d have to face the shame and humiliation about her confinement. There was no escaping that fact. And Clare. How could she ever explain any of this to Clare? God, how she missed her, but even more needed her.

"Your affairs tortured me, Michael," she continued. "I felt so violated."

"What about yours and Clare's?" he countered. "How can you twist things to make me out to be the villain in this marriage?"

"I wasn't screwing my staff!"

"You might as well have been."

"Then why didn't you leave, Michael?" She looked pointedly at him. "Why?"

He kept quiet.

"You didn't leave because the benefits were too good. You got to play the part of the doting husband and father, but most importantly you enjoyed all the prestige that went along with it, not to mention the money and other luxuries."

He let his breath out slowly. "What kind of woman would marry a man knowing that she only enjoyed being with women?"

Saturday's Excerpt – The Other Side

"You have a visitor," he said quietly.

"No one knows I'm here." She started to tremble. "Oh my God! I hope the press hasn't found out where I am."

He laid a hand on her shoulder. "It's Clare Christian."

Ally's hand flew to her mouth. "Clare's here?" she exclaimed. "Where is she?"

He opened the door and motioned for the woman. Clare walked into the room and over to Ally, quickly enclosing her in her arms. He closed the door and stood silently watching the women.

Tears filled Ally's eyes. "Oh my, God, Clare, you don't know how I've needed you, but how did you find out?"

She softly laughed. "Sweetheart, when I didn't hear from you I knew something terrible must have happened. Then when I read in the papers that you'd resigned I knew something was wrong. I've been trying to find you for so long. Last night I broke down and called Michael. I insisted he tell me your whereabouts."

"I thought you'd be the last person he'd tell."

"He knows I'll never leave you, Ally, unless you ask me to."

She touched her cheek. "That will never happen, Clare."
