Saturday's Excerpt – The Three Of Us

Deborah’s eyes traveled to Lily. Lily, dressed in casual kaki slacks and a red turtleneck, had set the last suitcase on the driveway and then slowly closed the trunk of the car. As Deborah watched Lily pick up the suitcases and begin to walk toward Caroline, Deborah got her first full view of her. It can’t be! she thought. As Lily moved closer, Deborah’s eyes met the woman’s eyes. Lily showed no emotion or recognition. Deborah froze, and then visibly trembled.

"Are you all right, Mom?" Caroline asked, worriedly taking Deborah’s arm and steadying her. "You’re trembling." She stared curiously at her. "You’re so pale. What’s wrong? Have you been ill? Are you keeping some health problem from me, Mom?"

"No…no, I’m fine, Caroline." she said quickly as she struggled to regain her composure. She smiled. "I’m just so excited to see you. All of your sudden news has overwhelmed me. That’s all."

Saturday's Excerpt – The Three Of Us

Caroline ran her hands through Lily’s beautiful dark brown hair. "I can’t wait until my mom finally meets you," she whispered. "She’s going to love you. But no one will ever love you as much as I do."

Lily propped herself up on an elbow. "I hope she at least likes me," she said with a wide smile. "So…" she said, running a fingertip under Caroline’s chin. "What did you tell your mother about me?"

"Not too much. I want her to meet you in person and see for herself that you’re as wonderful as I’ve said. And you know, I do think you’re wonderful," Caroline said, reaching her arms around Lily and drawing her closer. "I did tell her how kind and sweet you are to me. And that we’re getting married."

Lily’s eyes widened. "I wish I could have met her on one of her visits. She must think it odd that we’re getting married and she hasn’t even met me."

Saturday's Excerpt – The Three Of Us

But it was Lily. She couldn’t change that reality. The past had come back to haunt her. The past she could never forget, but never believed would resurface bringing back all of those painful memories. What could have possibly brought these two together besides the obvious physical attraction? Deborah had to admit that time had been kind to Lily. She still had a slim figure, but it was her face. That beautiful innocent looking face.

It was as though time had stood still as far as Lily was concerned. Her flawless skin, high cheekbones, almond shaped clear chocolate brown eyes, and dark brown hair looked almost the same as the last time Deborah had seen her. Her stomach muscles tightened. How could she delicately pull them apart without Caroline ever finding out the truth? Certainly Lily would want to break off with Caroline now that she knew the identity of Caroline’s mother. Deborah could see no possible way Lily would feel comfortable marrying the daughter of the woman she’d been so close to all those years ago. Worse, what would Caroline think when she learned her mother’s secret…a secret she’d kept hidden all these years?

Deborah couldn't help but notice how her daughter glowed and the way her eyes brightened when she looked at her lover. It would take every ounce of self-control she possessed not to lash out at Lily. What the hell was wrong with Lily? She wanted to scream at her and ask her how she could be so cruel. But that would have to wait…wait until she could get Lily alone. For now, she had to act like a gracious hostess and welcome her daughter's fiancée as though they were meeting for the first time. "It's nice to meet you, Lily," she said in an even tone of voice as she extended a hand. She forced a smile on her taut lips, fighting to keep her emotions under control.

"You're getting married?" Deborah asked, shocked.

"Yes, Mom. Please be happy for me. Now I know why the other relationships never worked out. Lily is the woman I am meant to be with for the rest of my life. We have so much in common. She's incredible."

Caroline's announcement threw her off guard. "Of course, I'm happy for you, honey. It's just that your news about getting married has taken me by surprise. Give me a minute to let it sink in," she said with a smile and then realized Caroline couldn't see her facial expressions. "I am thrilled for you, honey," she said mustering as much excited emotion as she could force into her voice.

Lily's eyes widened. "I wish I could have met her on one of her visits. She must think it odd that we're getting married and she hasn't even met me."

Caroline peered at her. "It's not your fault you were away on business when she visited. I haven't even had a chance to go back home for a visit since you and I met. I've only seen my mother twice since we started dating. She's as busy with her career as you and I are with ours, so she certainly understands." She brought Lily's face closer to her own. "Quit worrying. She's thrilled for us and excited to meet you."

Lily kissed her softly, but pulled back when Caroline tried to deepen the kiss.
"What's wrong, Lily?"

"You talk to her on the phone at least a couple of times a week." Lily shook her head. "We've been together for quite a while. I get the impression that you rarely, if ever, spoke of me." She bit her bottom lip. "When you talked to her earlier today did you at least mention our age difference so she won't be shocked?"

The Interview

Best selling author Shayla Bolton is torn between protecting a secret from her past and her love for reporter Rae Wilcox whom she believes may expose her secret.

Excerpt

Shayla finally spoke. "I'm going to give you the best interview you've ever had!"

Rae's eyes widened. "After I've made a fool of myself?"

"You didn't make a fool of yourself. It took a lot of courage for you to tell me the things that you did." A faint smile crossed her lips. "I like you, Rae." She touched her arm. "I liked you from the moment I first laid eyes on you."

Rae looked into those stunning penetrating eyes almost became lost in them. "Is that why you gave me the interview?"

"No. You have great potential as a reporter. If you didn't, you wouldn't be here." She ran her fingertips up Rae's bare arm. "No matter your profession, I would have still wanted to fuck you," she seductively replied.

Her jaw dropped and for a brief second she wondered if she heard her correctly. She didn't know how to respond, but a response didn't seem to matter to Shayla. Before she knew what was happening, Shayla tenderly placed a hand under Rae's chin and turned her head until she was staring into her eyes. Shayla's face closed the distance and brought her soft full lips to Rae's.

A shudder tore through her and her arms instinctively went around Shayla. At that moment, she didn't care that she barely knew this remarkable woman or that she would probably only end up being another notch on her belt; all that mattered was that Shayla Bolton was kissing her. She eagerly responded. When Shayla ended the kiss, Rae looked at her with what she knew must have been a stunned expression.

"Is something wrong?" Shayla asked in a husky voice.

"I'm just surprised," Rae whispered.
